Every barrister’s website needs a little light relief.
This is Sunny.
She is a golden Labrador retriever. She is not, strictly speaking, a costs barrister. She has no known views on QOCS, Part 36, solicitor-client assessments or the enforceability of funding agreements.
This is probably for the best.
Sunny appears on this site because law, even technical law, is still a human business. Costs disputes can be dry, difficult and expensive. A little warmth does no harm.
Sunny’s professional contribution is limited but valuable. She encourages walking, discourages unnecessary pomposity, and reminds me that most things are better explained plainly.
If a point cannot be explained in ordinary English, there is a fair chance it has not yet been properly understood.
That does not mean every costs problem is simple. They rarely are. But technical does not have to mean obscure.
Sunny is here to add a little distinction, a little humanity, and the occasional reminder that no legal point is improved by unnecessary barking.
