I am a specialist barrister in matters of costs and litigation funding. I practise nationally, appearing in courts across England and Wales. I act in the county court, High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court. I am particularly well known for my work in inter partes costs disputes, solicitor-client disputes and group litigation.
Solicitors instruct me because I combine deep technical knowledge with practical, commercially focused advice. I appear at CCMCs, detailed assessments, appeals, and costs arguments in complex civil litigation. I also draft documents and advise on non-contentious matters, including funding arrangements and regulatory compliance.
I am a qualified mediator, and am pleased to offer my services in costs mediations, and can also undertake early neutral evaluations, arbitration and other forms of ADR.

High-value commercial disputes involving litigation funding
I draft Points of Dispute and Replies, but not bills. I work closely with costs lawyers and draftsmen. I advise on likely recovery, Part 36 risk, QOCS, and ATE premiums.
I am an expert on the wasted costs and non-party costs jurisdictions. I act for and against solicitors, insurers, funders, and claims management companies.
Solicitor-Client Disputes
I act on both sides of Solicitors Act 1974 assessments. I have appeared in many such cases in the High Court and Court of Appeal. I also handle negligence and fraud claims involving solicitors. I advise on strategy, evidence, and settlement in these disputes.
I advise on complaints to the Legal Ombudsman where appropriate and can also advise upon the merits of judicial review claims of the Legal Ombudsman’s decisions.
Group Litigation and Funding
I have a strong practice in group litigation costs and funding. I advise on GLOs, test cases, waterfall agreements, funding structures and retainers. I appear at CCMCs and undertake detailed assessments in group cases.
I advise claims management companies and ABSs on structuring compliant referral arrangements. I am familiar with CMC regulation (old and new) and data protection issues. I draft CFAs, CCFA, DBAs and bespoke retainer terms.
Professional Negligence
I have acted in solicitor negligence claims since 1998. I have a particular aptitude for cases involving costs and funding failings, including:
-
Failure to advise on funding options or adverse costs risk
-
Defective CFAs or failure to secure ATE cover
I advise on liability, quantum, and procedural strategy.
Arbitration and International Work
I maintain an interest in arbitration costs. I advise on recoverable and irrecoverable costs in arbitral proceedings. I draft submissions for cost determinations and advise on interest claims linked to funding costs.
I accept instructions in offshore work (e.g. Cayman Islands) and have a growing interest in DIFC litigation. I am a member of the International Bar Association.
